Assam Tourism’s main event to celebrate World Tourism Day 2022 was hosted today in Kaziranga. The main attraction of the event was the cultural rally carried out in the vicinity of the National Park. This year’s theme for the event is Rethinking Tourism.
The Kaziranga National Park is by far the most popular tourist destination of the state of Assam. Although the Covid global pandemic caused serious losses for two years to the park and the people depending on it for their livelihood, it went back to normal soon after the restrictions were lifted. And it was not just normal, the number of tourists in 2021-2022 season broke all previous records. With the total more than 2.75 lakhs, smiles are back on the faces of the people dependent on tourism activities.
To mark the World Tourism Day 2022, a rally was taken out in the Kohora region of the park. Travelling in the nearby areas, the rally aimed to make more and more people aware about the culture of Assam. Almost all major tribes of the state and their customs were highlighted.
There was also an open session hosted to mark the occasion. Minister of Tourism, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Maninder Singh and several senior members were present. The winners of various contests organised to mark the occasion also received their awards in this event. Two books related to the sector were also released on the same stage.
