In a bid to promote music and tourism in the state, the Meghalaya chief minister flagged off the MGMP Season 2 on Wednesday. Conrad Sangma had flagged off the first season Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) last year. Sur Ki Nongkyndong, Colours, and Na u Bnai performed in the opening event.
The state organized the opening event in the Khyndailad locality of Police Bazar in Shillong. And the audience had a unforgettable musical experience during the event. As the talented artists left everyone spellbound.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma attended the event as the chief guest. Tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh also attended the event as the guest of honor. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Ampreen Lyngdoh and multiple other MLAs also enjoyed the presentation. And so did the Commissioner and Secretary for the tourism department Dr Vijay Kumar. Cyril V. D. Diengdoh, Director of Tourism for Meghalaya delivered the closing remarks.
Speaking on the launch the MGMP Season- 2, Conrad Sangma said that this launch is the beginning of a journey. And this journey will be a celebration of the soul of Meghalaya through music. Calling the state a treasure trove of talents, he said that this event will showcase the talent of the state. It will also nurture the local musicians of the state. He also congratulated all officials and participant on the success of the first session of Season 2. Conrad Sangma also said that Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project is the first of its kind in India.
He also added that the Season 2 of the project will be bigger and better than the previous edition. Saying that it won’t be confined to just music, the CM added that it will include folklore, drama, acts, stand up comedy among many others.
Paul Lyngdoh also expressed his happiness over the launch of season 2. He added that Shillong is poised to become the music capital of the country and resonate with musicians, bands and street performers. And it will prove to be a major step towards developing the entire state.
