The Guwahati Municipal Corporation today inaugurated the Samriddi Mela to celebrate International Womens’ Day. This event is hosted on the banks of the historic Dighalipukhuri and will be open till the 10th of March. The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM) is another organizer of this event.
The Samriddi Mela aims to showcase the creative side of women across the state. Various products are showcased in this event by multiple self help groups. As many as 81 self help groups are showcasing their products in this three day event. The participating women are exhibiting a very large of array of products including clothes, food, showpieces, jewelry, and many more. Participants can also enjoy as well as take part in multiple cultural presentations in the events.
Ashok Singal, the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs of the Government of Assam was also present in the opening event. He launched the My Guwahati My Responsibility initiative in this platform. This initiative aims to integrate the active involvement of the public in the developmental activities.
The Samriddi Mela aims to encourage and uplift the society to bring out more women entrepreneurs. Another similar event underway in Guwahati is the Asomi Saras Mela in Khanapara.
