Namoni Asom Mahotsav or Lower Assam Festival flags off tomorrow. The 10-day event will be celebrated on the banks of the Brahmaputra river in the Kacharighat region of the Goalpara District. The event aims to celebrate the region as well as to invite more and more tourists to Goalpara and the neighboring regions.
Although the districts of lower Assam are equally rich in terms of diversity in culture and nature, it receives way lesser number of tourists compared to the districts of upper Assam. Inadequate support from the state machinery towards tourism development has been one of the complaints. Some changes in the strategy have however been noticed such as Nalbari, Dubri and now Goalpara is able to arrange such events.
According to the organizers, this is a step towards highlighting the rich heritage of the region. Which will in turn help in bringing in more and more tourists and increase tourism-based revenue. Several adventure sports and cultural events will also be organized as a part of this event. Water sports, hot air ballooning, and speed boating are some of the adventure activities.
Live music and DJ nights will also be a part of the 10-day Namoni Asom Mahotsav. Organizers mentioned that Zubeen Garg will also be performing on the final night of the event. A photography competition, culinary exhibition and sale as well as fashion show and flea markets are also organized. A trade fair will also be organized as a part of the event. The whole event has been organized on the sand bars of the Brahmaputra River. It is similar to the Brahmaputra Carnival organized by the Tourism Department of the Assam Government in Guwahati.
