The OIL-ASJA Sports Awards were given out in an event held at Landmark Hotel in Guwahati today. Assam Olympic Association general secretary Lakhya Konwar, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Department Nibedan Das Patowary, OIL DGM Debajyoti Basumatary, Kolkata Thunderbolts Chairman Pawan Kumar Patodia and ONGC PRO Bandana Das were the main guests for the event. Assam Sports Journalists Association president Subodh Malla Barua was also present for the event.
Nayanmoni Saikia, gold medal winner for lawn bowl in Commonwealth Games 2022 recieved the RG Baruah Best Sportsperson of the Year. It consists of a cheque of Rs 50,000, trophy, gamosa and a citation. Swimmer Astha Choudhury received N.N. Singha Best Junior Sportsperson of the Year award. This award consists of a cheque of Rs 25,000, trophy, gamosa and a citation.
Oil India FC (Football) received the Nurul Amin Best Team of the Year award. While veteran sports journalist and sports organizer Balendra Mohan Chakravarty received the Pulin Das Lifetime Achievement Award. National record holder athlete Amlan Borgohain received the Special Jury Award.
Three promising sports persons from Assam received the Assam Sports Journalism Centenary Year Scholarships amounting to Rs. 10,000 each. They are Sahil Dey in chess, Priyanuj Bhattacharya in table tennis and Upasha Talukdar in gymnastics.
Former athlete Tayabun Nisha, former badminton player Madhurjya Baruah, former footballer Tohsen Bora, former swimmer Mithoo Borooah and international lawn bowls player Tania Choudhury were also felicitated in the OIL – ASJA Sports Awards event.
