The Road Safety Week was started today by Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Transport and Adil Khan, the Commissioner of Transport of Assam. The event was organised at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Khanapara.
Road Safety Week is organised from 11th to 17th January every year to spread awareness about road safety. This week-long event aims to educated drivers and pedestrians alike about the rules of the road.
The DTO (Enforcement) for Kamrup, Himangshu Das also undertook an awareness campaign in the evening. He and his team distributed roses among the drivers who abide by the traffic rules. Mentioning about the necessity to follow the rules, informed that there will be police checking during Bihu. He requested the citizens no to engage in drunk or rash driving as both might endanger the precious lives.
Talking during the event, the minister of transport mentioned that alcohol bottles in the state will carry a warning. These messages will warn the consumers against drunken driving similar to the warning signs on packets of cigarettes.
The transport department carried out a similar awareness campaign a few days back. They also conduct checks of vehicles at several part of the city along with the Traffic section of Assam Police. These steps have been taken to prevent accidents and other untoward incidents.
