The Naga Mircha is one of the hottest chilli peppers of the world and some of the best grow in the state of Nagaland. And the Seiyhama village played host to the 1st Naga Mircha Festival celebrating this exceptionally hot product of nature.
The Naga Mircha is known by many names across the world. Some of the common ones are the King Chilli, Bhoot Jolokia, Ghost Pepper, Naga Jolokia and many more. Although most people find this pepper to hot for consumption, large populations of Northeast India use it as a condiment. The Nagas, Manipuris, Mizos and Assamese are some of them. It can be consumed raw as a condiment, in pickled form or as an ingredient in different recipes.
Located about forty kilometers from the state capital of Kohima lies the Seiyhama village. And this village was the home of the 1st Seiyhama Naga Mircha Festival. About 200 farmers of this region have also managed to grow a good crop of this chilli pepper. This event was hosted not only to showcase this crop but also to attract buyers. Because of the high potency, this crop has high demands in diverge groups across the world.
Being one of the GI tagged crops from the state, the Naga Mircha has ample avenues of profit worldwide.
