With the popular Ziro Festival of Music 2023 less than two months away, the Ziro Valley is gearing up for the events. The DC of Lower Subansiri District convened a meeting of all stakeholders of the event on Saturday. DC Bamin Nime chaired the meeting held in his office. Tour operators, guides, hoteliers, cab drivers, homestay and campsite owners and members of Ngunu Ziro NGO attended this meeting. Nearly 30 people from different sectors participated in this meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner mentioned that this annual festival was very special for the region. He said that it has become a popular event and has the potential to develop the region into a tourism hub. While adding the importance of the basics of responsible tourism points being followed by all stakeholders. The officer also urged the local communities to actively participate in all sectors of the Ziro Festival of Music 2023. Bamin Nime emphasized responsible and community-based ethical tourism practices in the valley.
The officer also talked about the weightage of the festival in terms of importance for the local economy. And mentioned that Ziro Valley can easily replicate the success stories of Meghalaya. While giving examples of how community participation in tourism activities propelled the development of the economy. He also asked the stakeholders to give proper skill training to the professionals. The DC also underlined the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the valley. He appealed to the organizers to mobilize teams of volunteers to look into garbage management both at the event location and the vicinity.
Dikchu Raji, the district tourism officer also attended the event. He informed that the Ziro Valley has a total 14 hotels and 48 registered home-stays. And that over 1.7 lakh domestic and 150 international tourists visit the valley annually. He also mentioned that IDs will be issued to the guides after a proper training. This way, these guides will be able to ensure a holistic development of the region. All while giving proper guidance to the tourists visiting the Ziro Festival of Music 2023.
