Assam is all set to organize the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan in a very grand manner. His birthday falls on the 24th of November.
One of the goals of the current government was to take the stories of the great Ahom general to the national arena. As of now, only few people outside the state know anything about the exploits of the warrior. These people are generally historians and cadets of the National Defense Academy.
Lachit Borphukan is often called the greatest general of the Ahom kingdom. He was the only one who could stop the conquering force of the Mughal Army. His conquests in the historic Battle of Saraighat in the year 1671 AD inspires many even today.
A grand event will be organised in New Delhi on the 23rd and 24th of November to celebrate the event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will be present alongside the Assam CM in this event in the Vigyan Bhawan.
Himanta Biswas Sarma released the theme song for the event today in the premises of the Janata Bhawan. This theme song for the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan has been sung by popular Assamese singer, Zubeen Garg. The CM had also launched a a mobile application with the same goal about a month earlier.
A week-long celebration of Lachit Divas will kick off in all districts of Assam from the 18th of November. The main event will be organised on November 24.
