The famed Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team of the Indian Air Force showcased their flying skills in Guwahati today. The grand air show was organised by the Eastern Air Command and Government of Assam as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The almost half an hour display by the skilled pilots of the Indian Air Force started at around 10:30 AM today. The main display area was the Lachit Ghat on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra in Guwahati. But it was fully or partially visible from Bharalumukh to Governor House. Thousands of people across the city enjoyed this brilliant display of the Surya Kiran air crafts today.
The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team is popularly khown as the Ambassadors of the Indian Air Force. The team showcases the perfect synergy between professionalism and precision in the pilots. They comprise of nine Hawk Mk132 aircraft based out of Bidar in Karnataka. These were designed by British Aerospace and license manufactured in our country by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. And the team, now led by Group Captain GS Dhillon, was initially formed in 1996. And comprises of 12 pilots, 3 engineering officers, 1 doctor, 1 administrator and a ground crew of 150 air warriors. With the motto of Always the Best , the team has showcased their skills in more than 600 displays both in the country and abroad.
