The unexpected death of MLA Jambey Tashi in Guwahati led to the cancel of this year’s Tawang Festival.
One of the most anticipated events of the region, the Tawang Festival was supposed to flag off today morning. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju were supposed to be present for the inaugural event. This year’s event had several local, national and international performers in the lineup. Starting in 2012, the Tawang Festival is an annual celebration to showcase local culture as well as attract tourists to the state.
Jambey Tashi, the 48 years old MLA from Lumla passed away on 2nd November in the Down Town Hospital of Guwahati. He was a huge supporter of the Tawang Festival. And as a mark of respect to the deceased MLA, the organizers decided to cancel the event this year.
This year’s lineup included Ash King and Nikhil Dsouza from Bollywood. Faisak Ashoor from Ladakh, Pasang Lhamu, a Tibetan singer from Canada, Bhutan Mist Terrace, and Melina Rai from Nepal were also in the lineup. Local talents including Jeli Kayi, Rito Riba, k4-kekho, and Chorun Mugli also planned to perform.
The tourists who planned to attend the event and made necessary bookings are sad about the cancellation.
