The 2nd Sohra International Half Marathon was successfully conducted on Saturday. Conducted in the beautiful location of Sohra in Meghalaya, the event saw the participation of over 3000 participants.
Dr. Vijay Kumar, Commissioner and Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs flagged off the event. Isawanda Laloo, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs was also present. So was John F. Kharshiing, Working President of Meghalaya State Olympic Association and Hema Naik, SDO Civil (Sohra). The event was flagged off early on Saturday morning. The authorities also stopped the movement of commercial vehicles on the route to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
The prize distribution was held in the afternoon at a picturesque location. With the landmark Seven Sisters Falls in the backdrop of the event. Shakliar Warjri, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs and multiple MLAs took part in the award distribution ceremony. The organizers informed that over 3000 people from different age groups, locations and ethnicities participated in the event. This included over 1200 children as well.
The 2nd Sohra International Half Marathon saw multiple categories. Elkana Rolo from Kenya won the 21K Elite Category by completing the event in 1:06 Hours. Renu Singh from India won the 21K Elite Women’s Category and completed the run in 1:10 Hours.Apart from the winner, runners up and 2nd runners up, consolation positions also received awards.
The Run for Fun category saw a total of over 2000 runners irrespective of age, was the highlight of the event. Apart from the participants, a large number of local people were also present to cheer those running.
Winners of 2nd Sohra International Half Marathon
In the mens’ category Elkana Kipkoech Rono won the Elite 21K Run. Wolbetstar Ramsiej won Meghalaya Open 21K Run and Daniel Lyngdoh Wahlang won the Open 10K Run. Samir Kolya won in the 45 Years – 55 Years Below 10K Run while Swonding Mawlong won the Veteran Above 55 Years 10K Run.
In the womens’ category, Renu Singh won the Elite 21K Run. Darishisha Langjuh won Meghalaya Open 21K Run and Gloryfy Kurbah won the Open 10K Run. Smarles Marwein won the 45 Years – 55 Years Below 10K Run while Kmoin Wahlang won the Veteran Above 55 Years 10K Run.
