Guwahati: The organisers of the upcoming Khelo India University Games 2023 will deploy 900 volunteers to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. The sporting events in Guwahati will be organised over 15 days from February 19-29. Kiosks will also be set up in important locations of the city. These will help in the promotion of the events and encourage the public to watch the matches.
“We are setting up help desks at all the arrival points of Guwahati. There will be four arrival points to the city for the Khelo India University Games 2023. They are ISBT Guwahati, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati Railway Station and the Kamakhya Railway Station. Our volunteers will be stationed at all these four points,” mentioned the officials from the state’s sports department. They also informed that the highest load will be on the railway stations and preparations will be done accordingly. Adding that even though very few players will come via ISBT, volunteers will be deployed there.
Transit point for other states
Although many of the athletes will have their competitions in the neighbouring state, they are expected to visit Assam first. From Assam, they will be proceeding to the other destinations. This will be valid for participants going to Itanagar and Aizawl. But those visiting Sikkim may go via New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri or Bagdogra Airport.
Volunteers
Close to 900 volunteers will work in Guwahati through the entire duration of Khelo India University Games 2023. Out of these, around 40 volunteers have already been assigned their roles at the various arrival points. 30 of them have been deployed at the railway stations while the rest are at the airport and ISBT.
Food and catering
The organizers will be making arrangements for standardized food across all venues and accommodations. The menu has been approved by trained nutritionists from SAI. The menu also aims to give a taste of the cuisine of the North Eastern Region. They have also mentioned that the menu will be uniform and keep in mind the varied palate of different regions of the country.
