Guwahati: Two renowned journalists from the state of Assam will be visiting France for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024. Ritu Raj Konwar and Gitika Talukdar will be covering the world’s biggest sporting event this year from Assam.
Gitika Talukdar is no new name in the sports journalism sector. She was the only female photojournalist from the Northeastern part of the country to cover the Tokyo Olympics 2020. And will be the only female journalist covering the latest edition of the Olympics as well. She has covered multiple international events in recent times including the FIFA World Cup hosted in Qatar. Gitika Talukdar is also the first female photojournalist from the country to receive direct accreditation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to cover the Paris Olympics 2024. Thus bringing laurels not only to the state but also to the entire community of sports journalists from the region.
Meanwhile, Ritu Raj Konwar, Assam’s one of the ace photojournalists will be covering the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024 for mainly The Hindu and Sports Star. Ritu Raj Konwar has been covering the socio-political journey of north-east India along with his special projects on various ethnic groups on a regular basis. As a proud son of Mangaldai from the north bank of the mighty Brahmaputra, being born and brought up in Guwahati, having his master’s in anthropology, Ritu Raj chose photojournalism as his career in the early 90s contributing to various vernacular and regional media publications projecting northeast.
The Paris Olympics 2024 are scheduled to begin on July 26. And this massive sporting extravaganza ends on 11 August. Gagan Narang is the Chef-de-Mission for the Indian contingent for the Olympics this year. Two-time Olympic medallist badminton ace PV Sindhu will be a flag bearer for the team. 13-time Commonwealth Games medallist table tennis veteran Sharath Kamal will be the 2nd flag-bearer for India at the opening ceremony.
