Bangalore FC lifts the Durand Cup 2022

After more than a month of regular matches, this year’s edition of the oldest sports tournament of the country drew to an end with Bangalore FC lifting the trophies.

The Durand Cup was kicked off on the 16th of September and the first match was played in Kolkata. Known as the home of Indian football, the same city also hosted the finals. This city also hosted most of the matches of the tournament across multiple stadiums.

This was the 131st edition of the prestigious tournament. A total of twenty teams took part in the this tournament. This included teams teams from the armed forces, football clubs and teams from across the country. These twenty teams were divided into four separate groups. Unlike all previous versions, this year matches were played in three different cities. The group level matches of Group A and Group B were played in Kolkata. While the match of Group C were played in Imphal, Group D matches were hosted in Guwahati.

Today’s final was played between Bangalore FC and Mumbai City FC in the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. And Bangalore managed a 2:1 victory.

The Indian Super League is also due to start in a few days.
