The three legendary Durand Cup Trophies reached the capital of Assam on Saturday. The minister of Sports and Youth Welfare for the State of Assam, Nandita Gorlosa unveiled the trophies today at an event hosted in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati. The trophies will be in the city for three days, wherein they will be on display at different locations in the city. Lt General RP Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, also attended the event.
The organizers flagged off the Durand Cup Trophies tour on June 30. The Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VK Chaudhary and President of All India Football Federation Kalyan Chaubey also attended the flag-off in Delhi. Dehradun was the second stop and Dehradun was the third. The trophies also traveled to Jaipur, Pune, Mumbai, Karwar, Ezhimala and Kochi before reaching Guwahati. The Durand Cup Trophies will also travel to Kokrajhar, Shillong and Kibithu in Northeast India. They will also travel overseas to Kathmandu in Nepal and Dhaka in Bangladesh. At the end of this tour, the trophies will reach Kolkata, which is the venue of the finals.
The trophies will stay in the city for two days. Today the dignitaries flagged off the tour from the Radisson Blu hotel in the presence of media. In the afternoon the authorities will display them in the State War Memorial. The trophies will be on display in the City Centre Mall on 16th of July. And at the Cotton College and the Indian Oil Corporation Limited office on July 17. They will also be taken to several key landmarks of the city. These include the Royal Global University, Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati Town Club. They will also travel to the Maa Kamakhya Temple, B Borooah College and Roodraksh Mall during this visit.
