One of the most popular athletics events of Northeast India, the Guwahati Half Marathon was organised on Sunday, April 9. This year’s edition saw the participation of over 2500 runners from different parts of the country.
The Guwahati Half Marathon is an annual event organised under Techniche of IIT Guwahati. Techniche enters its 25th edition this year and the marathon sees its 13th edition. The organisers kept this year’s theme for the event as Run for Zero Hunger. It aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. People from different walks of life took part in this event. The dignitaries flagged off the race from Nehru Stadium in Guwahati.
Like the previous years, the organisers curated the event int three categories.The Glory Run is the flagship race of the event. The 21 km race is meant for the professionals of the game and saw participants from all over the country. The second category, the Spirit Run is specially curated for the Guwahatians. It is 6 km long race for people belonging to all age groups irrespective of the gender. The third category is the general championship. It is a category exclusive to the students of various institutions. The winning institution lifts the trophy of the General Championship with additional goodies.
DGP Assam Gyanendra Pratap Singh was present as the chief guest of the event. Dr Nitul Gogoi IPS IGP and Sarmistha Baruah APS were the Guests of Honour. Nipon Das was present as a special guest.
