India beats Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the ongoing 3 match series in Guwahati. They managed to win the match by 67 runs. The two teams will face each other again after a gap of one day in the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to field first. India was on the winning foot from the beginning of the match. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored 83 from 67 balls and 70 from 60 balls respectively. Virat Kohli remained the highest scorer of the match by reaching 113 runs from 87 balls. India managed to post a total score of 373 runs at the end of fifty overs and a loss of seven wickets.
Batting second, Sri Lanka was on the backseat from the very beginning. Only the Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka managed to give any visible competition. He scored a total of 108 runs out of the 88 balls he faced. He also managed to pick the first wicket of the match in the form of Shubman Gill. Opening batsman Prathum Nissanka was the only other player for the team who crossed the 50 run mark. He scored 72 runs from the 80 balls that he got to face before being caught by Axar Patel on a ball of Umran Malik.
After the win in the first ODI, India will be approaching the rest of the matches with renewed confidence. As the captain Rohit Sharma had mentioned, these matches are a preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
