Mohun Bagan Super Giants were crowned the champions for the 132nd Durand Cup. They beat arch-rivals Emami East Bengal with a 1:0 score in the final match. The Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan bore witness to the match. And nearly 50,000 spectators were part of the massive gathering for this game.
The only goal of the match came from Dimitri Petratos in the 71st minute of the match. This goal came well after Anirudh Thapa was sent off with a second yellow card at the beginning of the second half.
Governor of West Bengal, Dr CV Ananda Bose handed over the President’s Cup to the winners. General Anil Chauhan PVSM UYSM AVSM SM VSM, Chief of Defence Staff, gave away the Simla Trophy. While Aroop Biswas, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of West Bengal presented the Durand Cup.
David Lalhlansanga of the Mohammedan Sporting Club received the Golden Boot for being the Highest Scorer of the tournament. He had scored a total of six goals. Prabhsukan Gill from the Emami East Bengal received the Golden Gloves. And Nandhakumar Sekar also from Emami East Bengal was named the Player of the Tournament with the Golden Ball handed over to him.
Although the Mohun Bagan Super Giants were able to secure their first corner early in the first half, they failed to convert it. The same happened for Emami East Bengal as well, but a few minutes later. The fight continued throughout the first half, but none of the teams were able to score.
