Guwahati saw its first match of the 132nd Durand Cup on Friday. And Northeast United Football Club or NEUFC had a fiery win over Shillong Lajong Football Club. The home team managed to score a total of four goals. While the guest team from the neighboring state could not score a single one.
Local boy Parthib Gogoi was the star of the show in the first match of this year’s Durand Cup in Guwahati. Parthib scored a hat trick with three goals against the guests. He scored his first goal in the first half itself at 26 minutes. Second one came at 65 minutes followed by another one in the next five minutes within the second half. The overseas player in the squad, Romain Philippoteaux scored the fourth goal for NEUFC. This goal in the 35th minute of the match in the first half.
A beautiful event was also organized to mark the beginning of the tournament in Guwahati. This event included several presentations from the armed forces as well as civilians. The seasoned fliers from the armed forces did a flyby of the stadium in helicopters and thereafter in fighter aircrafts. A cultural presentation comprising of multiple dance forms of the state was also showcased. Popular artist Priyanka Bharali also gave a musical performance in the evening. Experts of several martial artists also showcased their talents in this celebration.
Several key officials of the armed forces, state legislature and administration also attended this event. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also took part in the celebration. Ministers Jayanta Malla Baruah, Nandita Gorlosa and Parimal Suklabaidya were also present.
