Northeast United FC came back strongly after the defeat in their first match of the ISL 2023-24. And they defeated Chennaiyin FC in their second match of the tournament. The hosts defeated the visiting team with a massive 3-0 score.
The second match for Northeast United FC was also a home match. They came face to face against Chennaiyin FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai of Guwahati. This match took place on Friday, September 29.
Parthib Gogoi opened the scoreboard with his first goal which came in the 42nd minute, just before the halftime whistle. Phalguni Singh scored the second goal of this match. It came in the 48th minute, that is just after play resumed after the halftime break. Asheer Akhter managed to put the third one in at the very end of the match, that is at 90 minutes + 10 minutes extra time. Thus taking the game with a 3-0 score.
This win comes as a major boost for Northeast United FC who had lost their previous match. They had lost 1-2 to Mumbai City FC in the match played on 24 September on the same ground. Also, Parthib Gogoi was the only one who could score in the match against Mumbai City FC.
Northeast United FC is currently in the fourth position on the rank table of ISL 2023. They have a total of 3 points as of now with one win and one loss. They will face Roundglass Punjab on October 6 in an away match in the Nehru Stadium. And the next home match will be against Jamshedpur on 26 October.
Meanwhile this win triggered immense joy among the members of Highlanders Brigade. They had unfurled the largest handmade banner in the first match of the tournament. It remains to see how the home team performs in the coming matches.
