Shillong: The Durand Cup Organising Committee (DCOC) has announced a change in the venue of a semi-final match of the tournament. They have announced that the first semi-final match of the tournament will be played between NorthEast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC. The match is scheduled for 5:30 PM on Monday. The Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in Shillong will host this match.
The decision to make this change has been taken in light of the results of the quarterfinal matches held yesterday. Both matches saw thrilling performances from Northeast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC, whose victories have fuelled immense excitement and anticipation among their fan bases. In response to overwhelming requests from supporters of both these teams, and in recognition of the traditional significance of the chosen venue as a stronghold of support for these clubs, we have decided to relocate the semifinal match between Northeast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC to Shillong and reschedule it one day later, i.e. 26 August.
This move is aimed at ensuring that the fans, who are the heart and soul of the tournament, can experience the excitement of this crucial match in an environment that resonates with the deep-rooted football traditions of their teams. We believe this change will enhance the atmosphere and provide the teams with the support they deserve as they battle for a place in the final. All other fixtures remain unchanged.
The organisers also expressed appreciation towards the Department of Sports of the Government of West Bengal in standing with the sentiments of the football fans of the Northeast in general and Meghalaya in specific. The Durand Cup Organising Committee (DCOC) also thanked the ardent football fans for their support, understanding & cooperation. Meanwhile, fans across the region expressed their happiness regarding this venue change.
