A Ferry service was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday to connect Molai Chapori with other nearby areas. Molai Chapori was a barren land which was transformed into a forest by environmentalist Jadav Payeng, popularly known as the Forest Man of India, who was also present during the inauguration.
The Chief Minister flagged off a ferry service between Kokilamukh and Kartik Chapori. The Ferry will touch Molai Chapori across the Bramaputra at a programme at Kokilamuh in Jorhat district.
During the inauguration, the Chief Minister said that the ferry service will not only serve as a connectivity between the two banks but also help in boosting tourism prospects for the man made forest area. A lot of both national and international enthusiasts and researchers visit this location every year to study the ecology.
“The Kokilamukh- Kartik Chapori Ferry service across the Brahmaputra will further strengthen communications network and realize tourism prospects at Shri Jadav Payeng’s Molai Chapori”, tweeted the Chief Minister.
The newly inaugurated service will run under the supervision of Inland Water Transport Department. And it is expected to be a big boost to the Tourism sector of Assam similar to the Ropeway Project in Guwahati.
