In a tragic incident a glacial break in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli resulted in an avalanche and massive flooding on Sunday in Dhauliganga and Joshimath area. Indo Tibetan Border Police force and State Disaster Response Force teams rushed to affected spots to rescue villages and locals.
Soon after the incident, many laborers working at the hydroelectric power project have been reported missing. Some reports also suggest that a dam of the Tapovan power project has been washed away.

This glacial break has not impacted Rishikesh and Haridwar, yet an alert has been put on for both the towns.
As per reports casualties are feared to be between 100-150. Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar stated that two bodies have been recovered so far and several injured have been rescued.
As per recent updates by ANI, four Army columns, two Medical teams, and one Engineering Task Force have been deployed at Reni village in Tapovan area of Chamoli, Uttarakhand.
This event of glacial break brings to mind the horrors of the 2013 natural disaster in the same regions, caused by another natural phenomenon of cloud burst.
