World Turtle Day celebrated in Nagaland Zoological Park

World Turtle Day is celebrated on the 23rd of May every year to protect and preserve this magnificent species. To mark this occasion, the Nagaland Zoological Park authorities and the Turtle Survival Alliance organized an event on the 24th of May.

The event was held in the Nagaland Zoological Park auditorium. An arts and crafts competition was organized to promote education through fun. An exposure visit to the zoo’s Asian Giant Tortoise enclosure was also part of the event. This was followed by an open quiz among the students and faculty of the participating schools. A total of seventy students and faculty members from four different schools were invited to the celebration. Eden Higher Secondary School, Westside School, Pilgrim Higher Secondary School and Logdrum Higher Secondary School participated here. Also representatives from a nature club named Eco Warriors, Nagaland also participate in these activities and celebrations. Winners were awarded and participants were presented certificates.

The program was inaugurated by Dr. C. Zupeni Tsanglai, IFS, Director of NZP and Tokaho Kinimi, IFS, Wildlife Warden, Dimapur was the Guest of Honor in the event. Mr. Vinoto K. Rochill, Forester I, NZP and Mr. Johnny Tep Rengma, Forest Guard, Wildlife Division were felicitated and recognized as Turtle Warriors by TSA India and NZP for service towards turtle conservation in the region.
