Arunachal Pradesh is one of the largest fish consuming states of the country. In order to boost the production of the local fishes this fish museum initiative has been taken.
Agriculture minster of the state Tage Taki made this announcement few days back. The project will be known as an Integrated Aqua Park and will have several features. It will aim to preserve and propagate the indigenous fish varieties of the state.
It will not only serve as a repository and database for all varieties of fishes in the state but also help people to learn about the habits and habitats of these fishes. In the long run it will serve as a training ground for anyone who wants to engage in this business. The aim is also to increase the fish production in the state so that it does not have to depend on other states. The fish museum will also help the region to grow in terms of both tourism as well as food.
The project has been sanctioned by the Department of Fisheries, under the Government of India. A total budget of Rs. 43.59 Crs have been allocated under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampad Yojana for this project as its first installment.
