Assam: Prime Minister Lays Foundation Stone of India’s Longest Bridge

In a bid to improve connectivity in Northeast India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone via video conference which is going to be India’s longest bridge over water. This mega structure will be connecting Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari in Meghalaya. This 19 kilometre long roadway will play a pivotal role in connecting both the states. As a result of this project, road transportation will develop drastically in the region.

Speaking on the occasion Prime Minister said that it will help in strengthening the connectivity with Barak Valley. He further added the bridge will also reduce the distance between Assam and other Northeastern states like Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

The Prime Minister said that the bridge will serve as a life altering Setu for the people of Northeastern region. The four lane bridge is expected to be completed by 2026-27. As per reports, the estimated cost of the structure is about 5000 crores. Once completed, it will reduce the geographical gap between the two regions.

The launch of Mahabahu Brahmaputra programme has also take place on Thursday at Majuli . Prime Minister Modi participated in the Bhumi pujan via video conference. This two lane bridge will connect Majuli to Jorhat.
