Two additional airports in the Northeastern part of the country will soon get international connectivity. As of now, only the Guwahati Airport of the region has direct flights to foreign destinations.
This announcement came from the Indian budget airline SpiceJet. They have announced a list of new services in the Northeast Indian region. These new flights will be operated under the UDAN scheme. Although the exact dates have not been notified yet, the airline has mentioned that these flights will be operational soon. And they are expected to begin towards the end of June.
The first route will be connecting the Agartala Airport in Tripura to the Chattogram Airport in Bangladesh. While the second route will connect the Imphal Airport in Manipur to the Mandalay Airport in Myanmar.
Apart from these international routes, the brand aims to increase its presence in the domestic sector as well. These include operating flights on the Kolkata Agartala Kolkata and Kolkata Imphal Kolkata sectors. The airline is also planning to restart its Kolkata Chattogram Kolkata flights.
Meanwhile, the Guwahati International Airport has also announced increased flights in its summer calendar. A new Guwahati- Kolkata- Bengaluru route is now being operated by Akasa Air. Also, international flights are being operated to Paro and Singapore from the Guwahati Airport. These services are expected to give better international connectivity to the entire country.
