Assam government has declared three villages in Karbi Anglong district as the epicentres of African Swine Fever (ASF) . The villages are- Taralangso of Lumbajong Block, Phuloni (Simaluati) of Howraghat Block and Langbungdingpi of Langsomeipi Block. Adjoining areas falling within 1 KM radius of these epicenters have been declared as Infected Zones. Those falling withing 10 KM radius will be Surveillance zones.
Considering the situation, certain restrictions have been imposed on the areas.
- No pork shops will be allowed to run. Sale of pork, pork related products and piglets are in the infected and surveillance zone are strictly prohibited.
- No live pig or pig feed or pork or pork products shall be allowed to be brought into the zone.
- No carrier of goods or animals shall carry any animals from or out of the infected zone.
- Carriage of animals (pigs) through roadways or railways through the declared infected zone is however allowed subject to so long as the animals is not loaded in any place within the zone till the issuance of sanitization certificate by the competent veterinary authority.
- No person is allowed to bring on and out any pig feed or bedding material or other materials, carcass, skin or other parts or products of such animals which has come into contact with any animals infected or suspected to be infected from ASF.
- No person, organization or institution shall hold any animal market, fair or exhibition and carry out any activity which involves grouping or gathering of pigs within the zones.
- The Chief Veterinary officer or competent authority can take necessary action if any pig is infected with ASF to prevent the further spread. The infected carcass shall also be disposed safely.
- All Municipal , Officials of the Village Development Council, Dairy Development Dept., Revenue and Agriculture Dept. shall assist the Veterinary officers to discharge their duties.
- Disposal of pig carcasses or part of in any water body will be punishable by imprisonment or fine or both.
- All officers, Director, District AH & Vety. officers, veterinary officers will still be under the jurisdiction of Section 21 of IPC (45 of 1860)
Any person violating the orders will be liable to be prosecuted under section 188 IPC.
