The registered tourist guides of the state of Assam have come together to form an association. The All Assam Tourist Guides Association (AAToGuA) was formed on Sunday, June 18 in Guwahati.
A statement issued by the organization mentioned that this step has been taken towards prioritizing sustainable tourism development in the region. The organization also decided to identify the location-specific needs of the people. They also decided to develop the need of different communities of Assam and Northeast India. All while prioritizing the exposure of potential tourism destinations which remain unidentified now.
Keeping these goals in mind, the registered tourist guides of the state decided to form this organization. Senior tourist guides, experts in key sectors and locations and the new batches of guides have come together to form this organization. Named the All Assam Tourist Guides Association or AAToGuA, it will also be a combined voice of the guides.
The development of community-based sustainable tourism in the region is the key idea of AAToGuA. The members took a pledge to work for the conservation and protection of the region. Especially in terms of the rich heritage and natural as well as cultural resources. The organization will also play a pivotal role in terms of disseminating information regarding sustainable tourism.
AAToGuA will now act as a consultant, counselor, facilitator and provider of information. It will be the take on the duty towards responsible tourism and sustainable livelihood in the entire state. The organisation will also handle the social security and strategic communication regarding culture and heritage. Overall, it will be working towards developing tourism resources for the betterment of the region. Sunday’s meeting was the first general meeting of the organization. Office bearers were elected in this meeting and a few senior guides of the state were felicitated.
