The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Police District, Guwahati, Diganta Kr. Choudhury has issued a prohibitory order on any kind of fireworks or bursting of firecrackers in a 500 meter radius of the Oil India Limited installations within the central police district.
Although there is a complete ban on use of any kind of fireworks in the vicinity of the Guwahati Refinery due to safety protocols, there is quite a high chance of the same happening during the Diwali season. Due to the presence of huge quantities of multiple highly volatile and inflammable products, any small mistake can turn into a huge disaster. There are also huge number of people residing in these zones.
Keeping these in consideration, the use of fireworks and bursting of crackers within 500 meters radius from the Guwahati Refinery in Noonmati, the Oil India Pumping Station in Satgaon and all Oil Pipe lines within Central Police District, Guwahati. Also, use of fireworks and bursting of crackers is prohibited within Silence Zones marked by the Central Police District, Guwahati.
This order shall come into force with immediate effect and any person failing to follow this order will be punishable under the U/S 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
