The new Assam Government led by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has completed its first anniversary today. And to commemorate this event, Asom Barta, a newsletter from the state to its citizens was released by Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister. The event was hosted in the premises of the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Assam has become one of the first states of India to launch its own newsletter and this is expected to set a new benchmark in establishing direct communication between the government and its citizens.
The newsletter will enable the people of Assam to stay connected to their government and its policies. Titled Asom Barta (Voice of Assam), it will keep the readers updated about the latest programs and policies of the State Government. Citizens, intellectuals, and freelance journalists will have the opportunity to provide constructive suggestions to the Government of Assam through this newsletter.
Asom Barta will come under the Directorate of Information and Public Relations. It will have its own governance structure operating with an editorial board under editor-in-chief Bishnu Kamal Bora. The first phase of this project will target to reach one crore readers. This will be done using various modern technologies such as WhatsApp, Telegram, E-mail, and with other social media platforms. Over 10,000 hard copies will also be printed and delivered on a periodic basis to all State Government offices at all levels of administration and also to eminent citizens across the country.
