Assam: Biodiversity Park Inaugurated in Cachar District

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday inaugurated a biodiversity park – Sahitya Manishi Upabon at Rampasadpur in Hawaithang range under Cachar Forest Division. Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya was also present during the inauguration along with other dignitaries.


The park under ‘CAMPA (State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority)
2020-21′ will serve as a centre for conserving indigenous botanical resources benefiting students and other educational researches.

The State CAMPA is an instrument to accelerate the activities for preservation of natural forests, management of wildlife, infrastructure development in the sector and other allied works.

On the occasion Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal praised the efforts of the Forest Minister in developing and giving concrete shape to the Park. He further said that the forest cover of the state and the number of tigers have gone up in past 5 years as revealed in the ‘Geographical Survey of India’ report.

Apart from the preservation of many key species, this project will also help in the tourism sector of the state. People can visit it for both research and recreation purpose.

The CM also named the Biodiversity Park, Dholai after former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
