Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Nilachal flyover on August 30. He dedicated this new flyover project to the people of the state.
Named the Nilachal Flyover after the Nilachal Hill which houses the revered Kamakhya Temple, this flyover is currently the longest in the city. And it is expected to bring relief from the pressing traffic problem in this part of the city.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister announced several other infrastructure projects. He said that the state government is in the process of constructing 1000 bridges across the state. And these bridges will be completed by the year 2026. He also mentioned that these new projects will be helping Assam to become a more developed state. He went on to add that Guwahati, which is now the gateway to Northeast India, will soon be the gateway to Southeast Asia.
Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned several upcoming projects across Guwahati city. He also said about the upcoming flyovers in several parts of the city. These include proposed projects flyovers at Bharalumukh, Fatashil and Barasapara. He also announced that the Guwahati International Airport will soon get a new terminal. And along with the terminal, the airport will get a new entry road through Dharapur. Also a new massive flyover will be created at Dharapur to handle the traffic to and from the airport.
The newly inaugurated Nilachal Flyover is expected to reduce the traffic congestion. Once the projects are completed, the travel time from the Guwahati Airport to Kamakhya temple will be reduced to just 20 minutes, said the chief minister.
