Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam today inaugurated the 1st phase of the Integrated Traffic Management System. The event was also attended by Queen Oja, Member of Parliament from Guwahati and Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, DGP Assam.
Being the largest city of the Northeastern part of the country means Guwahati has a huge load on its roads. And as the number of vehicles increase everyday, so does the traffic woes of the city. This problem has increased manifold with the ongoing flyover construction projects across the length and breadth of the city. The Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) is a ray of hope to all the resident of the city facing the traffic woes.
The control room for the system is housed in the campus of the DGP office in Guwahati. Created as a part of the Guwahati Smart City project, this system enables not only surveillance but also management and control over the traffic system of the entire city. As of today, twenty traffic signals of the city are under the 1st phase of the system. These key junctions are between the Nepali Mandir and Khanapara regions of Guwahati. And by the final stage this system will handle a total of 94 junctions across the city.
With the smart monitoring system, major traffic violations can now be handled centrally. Also people will drive with more caution, making the streets safer.
