On the occasion of World Environment Day 2021, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the notification of the Raimona National Park. Located in BTAD, this is the 6th National Park in the state of Assam.
The announcement came over social media from the new CM.
This National Park is located in the Kokrajhar in the Gossaigaon sub division. Earlier called the Ripu Reserve Forest, it is famous for the Golden Langurs. And it located in the fringe areas of the Manas National Park. Other species of wildlife include Asian Elephant, tiger, clouded leopard, Indian gaur, wild buffalo, spotted deer and hornbill. It also has more than around 150 species of butterflies, 170 species of birds, nearly 380 species of plants and multiple orchids.
Assam has been a haven for wildlife even before the notification of the Raimona National Park. It already has five National Parks and now the total count is six and a huge variety of landscapes and lifeforms. The following are the five existing national parks of the state.
- Kaziranga National Park.
- Manas National Park.
- Dibru-Saikhowa National Park.
- Nameri National Park.
- Orang National Park.
This will definitely add more tourist attractions in the state in the post COVID times. Another important decision of the day was the announcement of the Climate Change department in Assam.
