Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched a new brand named TRISSAM to market and sell the traditional and ethnic produce. This project was launched under the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojna to provide traction to the market of local produce.
Most of these products are currently sold only locally, so proper benefits are not received by the producers. With proper branding, these products can now be made available in wider markets.
Creation of the TRISSAM brand will also help in the creation and maintenance of proper quality and industry standards of these products. Which will put these products at par with most of the national and international brands sold in the country.
Initially fifty Van Dhan Bikash Kendras have been set up across the state . And these are expected to cater to around 15000 producers of traditional and tribal products. This will also go a long way to help the tribes and small ethnic groups with endemic produce to reach economic self sufficiency.
Assam Government is also working with Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship to achieve the goal of Atmanirbhar Assam.
The launch event was chaired by the Chief Minister of Asssam, Sarbanada Sonowal. Chandan Brahma (Minister of Tourism) , Bhabesh Kalita (Minister of Irrigation) and Jayanta Malla Baruah (Chairman, Assam Tourism Development Corporation) were also present in this event.
The Northeast Indian state of Manipur has also taken full benefit of this scheme to promote their local produce. Read More here.
