The Greater Guwahati Unit of the North East India Petroleum Dealer’s Association had announced that all the fuel stations of the city of Guwahati will remain closed for a forty eight hour duration. The closure was about to come into effect from 6 AM of the 22nd of October before the Greater Guwahati Unit of the North East India Petroleum Dealer’s Association called it off today.
The North East India Petroleum Dealers’ Association is affiliated to the Federation of All India Petroleum Traders. And the announcement of closure of came as a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of the Kamrup Metropolitan District on the 4th of this month.
The Association cited the arbitary and high handed actions of the oil marketing companies as a reason of the forty eight hour closure.
The closure of fuel stations was called off post the district administration’s discussion with the representatives of the association. But the this announcement came late in the afternoon. All fuel stations of the city saw massive crowds throughout the day, specially in the second half as the public wanted to fill their fuel tanks ahead of a two day closure. And this caused massive traffic jams in several parts of the city.
