The serene Chandubi Lake is the home ground of the Chandubi Festival which will be hosted from the 1st to the 4th of January. Located in the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council of Assam, this earthquake cater lake is one of the most popular picnic destinations near the city of Guwahati.
The Chandubi Festival takes place in the first week of the year to celebrate and showcase the rich and colourful culture of the Rabha people of the state of Assam. Music, dance and ethnic cuisines are essentials of the festival for the people going to visit the place. For the locals, it is an annual market to buy and sell their products. Products ranging from food products, handloom, mementos and vast range of products. A magazine is also released every year to commemorate the event and celebrate the heritage.
The Chandubi Festival also sets high standards of eco-friendly events across the country. Making huts and stalls mainly with locally available bamboo and straw shows the high utility of these materials.
Since its inception in 2010-11, this festival is hosted every year from the 1st to the 5th of January. However keeping the CAB protests in mind, the 2020 version was held ceremoniously, without tourist participation . Adhering to the Covid protocols in mind, this year’s event will be hosted for four days instead of five.
The 11th version of the Chandubi Festival will be held on the banks of the lake from the 1st to 4th of January. With the ongoing Covid global pandemic, proper care are being taken by the organising body of the festival. Masks and hand sanitization is made compulsory for all participants.
