Assam Chief Minister inaugurates three more foot over bridges in the city of Guwahati. This brings the total number well equipped bridges for pedestrians to seven across the city. These are located at Adabari, Boripara and Panbazar areas of Guwahati.
All of these foot over bridges are equipped with staircases and escalators on both sides of the road. Also for proper accessibility of these facilities by differently abled citizens, lift facility has also been added on both sides for wheelchair access. Also for safety and security purposes, all bridges are have 24 hr surveillance and attached power backup.
First to be opened for public were the ones at Christian Basti and ABC followed by the ones at Kamakhya Gate, Ganeshguri and Khanapara.
Apart form these seven there are already two older bridges, one each in Maligaon and Lachit Nagar to help pedestrians cross the busy roads without causing difficulties for passing vehicles.
Three more projects namely the flyovers at Maligaon, Sharabbhati and Dispur are also underway in Guwahati. The Dispur flyover is scheduled for opening by Diwali 2021 followed by the other two. Once all there are completed, the traffic situation of the city is expected to improve considerably.
