Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced an entrepreneurship grant of Rs 50,000 to two lakh educated unemployed youths of the state. The announcement was made in a press conference.
The said amount of money shall be facilitated under the Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment Yojana (SVAYEY) scheme. Initially, this scheme was launched in 2017-18 however it didn’t yield expected result. Hence, the scheme has been launched again for the welfare of the youths in Assam.
The 1000 crore budget scheme will be funded by the government. Members of Self Help Groups (SHGs), joint liability groups and other groups, and federations that have organised themselves for entrepreneurial projects will get the benefits of this scheme. The SHGs will also get free government contracting licenses.
However, the groups which have been formed before 1st September will be able to avail the benefits. To avail the benefits of the scheme one must not be above 40 years of age and should have the minimum qualification of High School Leaving Certificate examination pass.
This scheme is expected to help a lot of local youth who had to return home during the Covid -19 induced lockdowns and ease the unemployment problem of the state.
