Government of Assam on Thursday suspended all kinds of boat/ferry services in Kamrup Metro till 31st May. The decision was prompted by the rising water level of the Brahmaputra river.
An official notification was released by the office of Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metro declaring the suspension.
As per the notification, the water level is forcasted to rise over the danger level within 2-3 days. Plying of ferry service in such a situation can be dangerous to general public.
The flood situation in Assam has already worsened. Nearly 3 lakhs people across 11 districts of the state have been affected by this annual occurance. According to a report, the death toll has risen to three in the state
Along with flood, the global pandemic is also giving a hard time to Assam. So far, 856 cases of COVID19 have been confirmed in the state. Out of these, 746 are active cases.
