GMC imposes strict Cleanliness Policy for Guwahati

The new flyover in front of the Assam Secretariat was inaugurated just a few days back by the Chief Minister. And the spit marks across this new construction defiantly questions the cleanliness of the city. To maintain the same across the city, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation has decided to impose a strict cleanliness policy.

This policy aims to completely stop any further defacing of any public places and public properties across Guwahati. It aims to prevent not only littering by spitting of pan / pan masala/ ghutka, but also to prevent sticking of any advertisements or fliers on walls of public or private properties as well as pillars and walls across the city.

In order to maintain public health, safety and morality, the following measures are taken to enforce cleanliness by the prohibition of spitting/ sticking of bills in public places within the Guwahati Municipal area.

  1. A fine of Rs. 1000.00 will be imposed on violators on first offence. However, repetitive/ habitual offenders will be slapped with higher penalty.
  2. The Guwahati Municipal Corporation will register FIRs against these offenders if needed under its laws and byelaws.
  3. Various organisations or agencies who pasted posters/ bills without the permission of the Corporation were ordered to remove them within 15 ifteen days or legal actions will be taken.
  4. The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has also opened four WhatsApp numbers for citizens to post pictures of offenders/ violators spitting or littering the cityscapes. The numbers are as follows 8811007000, 7399003001, 7399003002 and 7399003004.
  5. The Guwahati Municipal Corporation also has announced a cash reward of Rs. 1000.00 for such images, if found to be authentic.

This notification comes into force with immediate effect.
