Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam today inaugurated the new flyover in-front of the Assam Secretariat in Guwahati. On the occasion of the Hindu festival of light, Diwali, this new infrastructure was made available to the public.
Completed in record time, this two lane flyover is aimed to control the peak hour traffic near the Secretariat. The traffic moving from Ganeshguri towards Beltola or Khanapara can use this Y shaped design. This allows them to reach Down Town or Last Gate without interfering with the traffic going towards the Assam Secretariat or NEDFi or Srimanta Shankar Academy. This will automatically control the heavy traffic at the Supermarket Intersection. The construction also provides an ample parking spaces in the prime location near the Supermarket area.
This flyover is not only meant to solve the traffic issues but also serve as a beautification project. A large number of artists have worked overnight to give this bridge an artistic touch. It is now a display of the art and culture of Assam. It displays both cultural symbols and natural ones representing the state for everyone to see.
The Ganeshguri flyover was extended few months back and helped control the traffic in the area.
