Mime Artist from Assam, Minangka Deka performed street acts in thickly populated areas of Guwahati on Saturday to promote wearing of masks and maintain social distancing.
The acts were a part of an awareness programme by the Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Mass Communication & Journalism Alumni Association (BCMJAA) of Cotton University on the use of masks and the necessity of social distancing.
Under the initiative, the team distributed over 500 masks among daily wage-laborers, vegetable-vendors, destitute and under privileged ones in thickly populated areas of Guwahati including Fancy Bazar, Zoo Tiniali, Ganeshguri, Chandmari, Paltan Bazar, Lachit Nagar etc.
Minangka Deka, who is a former student of the department, played a crucial role in the program by performing mime acts while distribution to make the awareness more vivid and facilitate better understanding of the significance of wearing masks.
Faculty members and former students of the department contributed towards this noble initiative.
The cause and act was widely appreciated by the public who expressed that the initiative was highly insightful. The goal of this initiative was to provide personal protection to mitigate the risk from COVID-19 among people.
It is to be noted that Assam has been witnessing a surge in number of Covid-19 cases especially in Guwahati. Over 400 people have succumbed to the virus so far.
