Assam Health Minister , Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that about 1 lakh kits of Care Antigen Detection Test kits will be deployed in Guwahati. This test kit is a new tool approved by Indian Council of Medical Research Delhi for quick diagnosis of SARS -CoV -2 in field setting. A demo of the test kit was held at GMCH on Thursday.
Attending the demo Sarma informed that this test kit gives immediate results with moderate sensitivity with high specificity.
This comes a day after the Health Minister said that the Covid-testing pattern in Guwahati will be revised as the cases are rapidly rising.
The Health Minister also informed the test kits will be deployed soon in Guwahati for rapid testing with immediate results. The standard RT-PCR tests shall also continue in the city. With both the techniques of testing, the Health Minister aims testing faster in Guwahati. These kits will be deployed across the Covid Counselling Centers of the city.
Guwahati is currently under complete lockdown for 14 days starting from June 29. The lockdown was imposed due to the rapid increase in Covid-19 cases in the city. Assam currently has a total of 3311 active cases of covid-19.
