Pubs and Bars Allowed to Open in Kamrup Metro

All the IMFL ‘ON’ shops in Kamrup Metropolitan district have been allowed to operate from 10 AM to 5 PM. However, the shops will have to operate with strict compliance of the social distancing and other precautionary norms as per guidelines issued by the government in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Bars and pubs of the city have been closed since the starting of the lockdowns.

The permission was issued in a letter by the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan District on Thursday.

The state govt had ordered closure of bars since the beginning of the lockdown. Although restaurants with food delivery and takeaway options have been allowed to operate on and off in Guwahati, pubs and bars remained closed.

This long closure has hugely impacted the whole industry. Not only due to the lack of sales, but also due to the expiry of the stocks already present in house. So this step is expected to bring a wave of relief to the owners as well as consumers.

Assam is currently in the third phase of unlocking with several activities being allowed in a phased manner. And it’s in accordance with the rules and regulations issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs for Unlock 3.
