The largest dairy co-operative, the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) has launched a new product on the occasion of World Bee Day 2023. Named Purabi Honey, this product is aimed at providing excellent quality honey to the local market.
Purabi Honey is made from raw honey sourced from the local beekeepers of the state. It is being promoted by WAMUL, Naba Milan Beekeepers and Producer’s Cooperative Society Ltd of Kamrup. The product has been launched in 125 gms and 250 gms packs. And aims to fulfil the growing needs of the local market.
The product was launched on World Bee Day 2023. It aims to provide local consumers with high-quality honey as well as a market for the local beekeepers of the state. The first batch of the product was made out of a total 650 kilos of honey. This lot was collected from the 104 members of Naba Milon Beekeepers and Producer’s Cooperative Society Limited.
The launch of Purabi Honey aims to increase Assam’s contribution to the honey industry. It also recognizes the efforts of the cooperative sector towards sustainable beekeeping practices. It is also a significant milestone for WAMUL and its associated farmers. The launch event was organised in the Purabi complex in Panjabari of Guwahati.
World Bee Day is a UN event to raise awareness about the crucial role of bees. And their work towards maintaining biodiversity and supporting sustainable agriculture. It is organised on May 20 every year. And this year’s theme is “Bee engaged in pollinator-friendly agricultural production”. It calls for global action towards supporting pollinator-friendly agricultural production. It also highlights the importance of protecting bees and other pollinators, particularly through evidence-based agricultural production practices.
