The new Chief Minister of Assam , Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Kaziranga National Park today. He took stock of the various measures and facilities of the park specially during the floods and some steps were announced.
The following are some of the decisions taken.
- Elephant corridors are to be identified and finalized expeditiously.
- Ration amount to be increased from Rs 840 to Rs 2000 for wildlife and camp staff.
- Ten satellite phones to be given to the Kaziranga National Park from Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
- More number of Ghatak, a sophisticated weapon to be provided to Assam Forest Protection Force to counter poaching.
- Assam Forest Protection Force personnel to be trained at Mandakatta Commando Training Center.
- Zero tolerance for animal poaching.
- More facilities for anti – poaching camps.
- ASP/ DSP level officer for Kaziranga National Park to be posted at Golaghat . One DSP level officer to be posted in Kaziranga National Park.
- Covid -19 Vaccination for all frontline forest staff within next seven days.
- Development of additional staff at Kaziranga National Park for the flood season and action will be taken against all staff who did not join last year.
- Special Task Force for Kaziranga National Park to be notified under chairmanship of Special DGP . Officials from Majuli district are to be included as well.
- Vaccination of all cattle in the fringe areas of Kaziranga National Park within next fifteen days.
- To provide fodder concentrates for cattle during the floods.
- Ex Gratia under Forest Department to be brought out of FOC purview.
- Government Guest House to be built near Kaziranga National Park.
- Engage local people in Kaziranga National Park protection and development through livelihood support.
- All posts at Kaziranga National Park and Wildlife Divisions to be filled up immediately .
- One DFO level officer to be posted in Kaziranga National Park for liaision.
These are some of the steps that will be taken to develop Kaziranga National Park.
