Guwahati is currently hosting a cycling event for participants from all over the country. The 74th Senior, the 51st Junior and the 37th Sub-Junior Track Cycling Championships started today morning.
The event is being organised by the Cycling Association of India. The Sports and Youth Welfare Department of the Government of Assam is also collaborating. While the Cycling Federation of India is supervising this sporting tournament. The cycling velodrome at the Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education in Sonapur near the city is the venue of this event.
The formal inauguration of the event was organised on the 10th of December. A cultural presentation was organised to mark the occasion. Nahid Afrin and Ranjit Gogoi performed in this event. While it was attended by member of Assam Cabinet, Jayanta Malla Baruah. Sports Authority of India’s Guwahati Director, Secretary of Asian Cycling Federation also attended this event. The director of the Cycling Federation of India, Biren Singh and the Treasurer of Assam Olympic Association Tapan Kumar Das were also present. Sports and Youth Welfare Director Nibedan Das Patwari, Cycling Association of Assam President and Secretaries IPS Harmit Singh and Dr Tapan Das also attended the inaugural event.
The tournament officially started at 7.30 am today. Nearly 600 players belonging to 28 teams are participating in this tournament.
